Introducing the Weightlifting Memberships and Add-Ons

[If you are unfamiliar with our Weightlifting Program or Grind House Barbell Head Coach Chris Jeansonne, read more about it here under the Programs tab.]

Beginning Tuesday, we are lunching the Weightlifting Memberships and Add-Ons. I wanted to take this opportunity to explain what each option offers in order to point you in the right direction.

The last 3 weeks have seen y’all take part in workshops covering each element of the snatch and the clean & jerk. We have even seen a number of PRs each day! That’s a pretty strong start to a program that is just now taking shape. If you have not been able to take part in the workshops, you are not completely out of luck. We are offering 1 Tuesday or Thursday session at no extra cost to both members and non-members who would like to try it out.

Program Structure

The first objective is to layout the plan for the Weightlifting Program. There will be a weeks worth of programming (workouts) released at the start of each week to those who have signed up. Athletes will then lift during business hours (5am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm Mon-Thu, 5am-10am and 4pm to 7pm Friday, 8am to 10:30am Saturday, and 10am to Noon on Sunday) on their own. Chris will be available to analyze videos of lifts and answer questions via email (Remote Coaching).

Chris will be on property on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 5pm-8pm. Athletes DO NOT have to arrive at 5pm, and athletes DO NOT have to lift until 8:30pm. Athletes are able to train on their own schedule so long as it fits within the hours the gym is open.

The training program itself IS NOT just snatches and clean and jerks. Chris will be working in plenty of accessory work including squats and other assistance exercises. This is offered as a full training program. If your goal is to only snatch and clean and jerk we will have an option for you, but a full on Weightlifting Membership is likely unnecessary. This is also not something you are meant to do with CrossFit following before or after. If you insist on training CrossFit on the same day then separating your training sessions is ideal (AM and PM). If that is not possible then getting your full weigithlifing session in first before completing the CrossFit class for that day is your second, less ideal option.

Membership Options

Weightlifting Only- $90 p/ Month

Tuesday/Thursday with Chris plus Open Platform during all business hours. This membership is for those who want to spend time training specifically in the sport of weightlifting. Your goal is to step onto a platform (at some point) and lift. There are no contracts here so choosing to pursue this does not commit you to a life of weightlifting. Take it one month at a time. There are two or three of y’all who should heavily consider this or the next option.

Weightlifting Plus- $115 p/ Month

This includes Tuesday/Thursday, All Open Platform, and 2 CrossFit workouts per week. If you are truly pursuing weightlifting, especially at the start of your journey, you must cut back on the “CrossFit” mentality. It is still important to get your heart rate up and get your conditioning in from time to time, but keeping your focus on CrossFit while also trying to focus on weightlifting is not something that is recommended.

The All In One- $175 p/ Month

All Weightlifting offerings plus unlimited CrossFit classes. To be clear, it is not possible to focus on Weightlifting and CrossFit at the same time. But if you want open access to the platforms, access to the weightlifting program, access to Chris, all while maintaining your 3+ CrossFit workouts each week, then this is for you.

The Workshop Add On- $15 p/ Month

This will be the most popular option at the start. For CrossFit Members who only wish to work with Chris on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is no additional platform time or programming included in this option (Lift on Sundays during Open Gym). This gives you access to Chris on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Lift anytime between 4pm and 8pm on those days and know that he will be here with feedback for you.

If you have any questions or concerns, just ask. Whether you stop by and talk to Chris himself on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, or you shoot us an email (, we will work with you to create the best option for you!

Take advantage of this opportunity. Chris' expertise is not common. Most barbell clubs at your local CrossFit affiliate are half ass and half hearted. This is an opportunity to be at the starting line of something that is sure to grow quickly.
