Brandi joined us at the end of 2017 already 4 months into her 12 month, 140 pound weight loss journey. She is the Color Guard Director for the Cy-Falls Band in Northwest Houston. She’s an incredibly consistent participant in our classes each week. And she is a bright (and quite entertaining) member of our community.

The 140 pounds lost in 12 months is reason enough for her to share her story. But I assure you we invited her on for so much more.

Brandi Ball is about half fun and games and half stubborn persistence. That means she is capable of radiating positive energy like the sun while simultaneously being able to become a black hole of emotion when she does not achieve something at the rate she believes she should be achieving it (if Brandi is looking at a box, just stay away. She’ll get it. But it may not be a super fun experience for bystanders until she does).

Brandi has conquered so many things in this gym and in life. As the woman who does not care that she may not be super ready to take something on, she spends more time upside down working on headstands and handstands, more time hanging from the rig working on her grip strength for her eventual pull ups, and more time double undering than anybody else.

And this persistence has paid off. As mentioned above, she’s lost 140 pounds in 12 months. That means that for the first 4 months she did it without us. We were just the icing on the cake of her journey. The coaches know not to doubt Brandi. And though it sometimes feels like taming a Velociraptor Chris Pratt style, when she conquers something the whole building explodes with happiness.

This interview goes deep. Psychological ramifications of being considered the big kid. Yo-yo weight loss (busy summers brought 60 pounds of weight loss, but 9 months of school brought 80 pounds of weight gain), empowering young women through color guard (and band), and making sure to get real excited when you realize you are able to do new things (hip hop dance class maybe?!).

Brandi is an amazing person which is something most of y’all know. But for those who don’t, check out the first few minutes of this podcast and you’ll be hooked by her charisma!
