What’s in the Fridge: Cold Drinks for After your Workouts

We offer a few refreshing drinks for after your workouts to help you recover and to bounce back even better the next time! Low calorie drinks that deliver the nutrients we need to for lose weight, get stronger, and enjoy life.

We have electrolyte beverages from LMNT to help replace what we sweat out during our workouts in the Houston heat (and to help our brain get what it needs to run well).

We have BCAA beverages from NOCCO, blue cans with caffeine and green cans without which offer a crips, flavored drink that is great cold.

And we have a few drinks that get you the protein you need to help you keep making progress with your workouts.

LMNT BIG & SMALL CANS

Stay Salty

Ok, I dont have time to do the “why salt is actually ok” discussion right now. And yes, we have been told to watch our sodium our whole lives. But, as always, that messsage was muddled in terms of details. No, do not go eat high sodium pre-packed foods. Those will absolutely lower your health and the high sodium does have a role there.

And no, if you live a sedentary lifestyle, workout/sweat less than 3x per week then you do not need to be consuming more sodium (in all likelihood).

But if you use your brain a lot (brains burn through electrolytes), or you workout consistently in the heat like we do here in Houston, then these electrolyte supplements can be beneficial.

BCAA drinks for after your workouts. Caffeinated (blue) and uncaffeinated (green).

NOCCO GREEN & BLUE CANS (12OZ)

Drink these for the flavor. If the BCAAs are a benefit, that’s a bonus.

BCAAs are Branch Chain Amino Acids. These amino acids can be depleted by exercise and, in theory, consuming BCAAs and having them present during workouts prevents your body from using the amino acids already in our bodies. Research is not super strong here, but there is not a downside to BCAA supplementation.

But that is why I emphasize that these drinks should be consumed for the caffeine or for the flavor. BCAAs should be the bonus.

NOCCO Green Cans (12oz) – $3.50

Protein Drinks

PROTEIN DRINKS

We have three current options for post workout prtein, all with more than 20 grams of protein in 12 ounces.

Protein supplementation helps us hit our daily protein goal. Because protein satiates longer, and because protein has a high thermogenic affect (body burns hotter to process it), it is extremely useful for managing our body composition.

Whether we are trying to lose weight or gain muscle, hitting our daily protein is a verg good idea! Take your bodyweight and multiply by .7 as a starting point. The answer is the number of grams of protein you should hit each day. I can help!

Oikos 30g Protein (12oz) – $4

Barebells Milk Drink (11oz) – $4
